  • Opinion: Joy is a lovely human! The combination of Joy’s authenticity, attention to detail and wisdom of the body, the beautiful reclaimed old church as the studio and the kind community of folks that practice at Shanti makes this a special place to practice yoga. Side note, I appreciate that the studio is simple and humble. No mirrors, no product pushing or a certain image or lifestyle. Many yoga teachers and studios can be flashy or push products or ego driven and this is not the case at Shanti. Love and light. Best pilates center in Nelson BS.

  • Opinion: Could not recommend more! Did personal workout pilates sessions with Joey and it was everything I was hoping for (I recommend the 10-session pack). Joey is very knowledgeable and attentive and taught me better posture using mental images that made it much easier to get it. I felt as though the sessions were very much tailored to the objectives we had discussed, and not just a generic program. Joey is your guy if you’re looking to learn to train better, build strength in a smart way, and have tangible takeaways for workouts on your own when you’re done.

What is Pilates in Nelson

Pilates, a method of body conditioning, emphasizes strengthening the body’s core muscles, especially those in the abdomen and back areas. It has gained global recognition for enhancing posture, boosting strength, and increasing flexibility. The practice involves a sequence of gentle yet controlled movements, executed either on a mat or using a machine specifically engineered for Pilates training. These exercises prioritize meticulous control and accuracy over sheer intensity, making them suitable for individuals of any age and varying degrees of physical fitness.

5 Basic Aspects of Pilates

Pilates, a comprehensive exercise regime, is renowned for its effectiveness in improving flexibility, strength, and overall well-being. Here are five fundamental aspects that make Pilates a unique and beneficial workout:

  1. Control: The cornerstone of Pilates is control. Every movement in Pilates is done with full body awareness and deliberate, precise control, enhancing the effectiveness of the workout.
  2. Concentration: Pilates requires a high level of mental focus. Concentrating on your breath, the specific movements, and how they feel in your body makes Pilates a mindful exercise practice.
  3. Centering: This principle refers to the concept of moving from your core. Pilates exercises are performed by engaging the center of your body, which can lead to improved posture and balance.
  4. Fluidity: In Pilates, motions are meant to be smooth and grace-like. This fluidity makes exercises less straining on the body and helps build a stronger mind-muscle connection.
  5. Precision: Each exercise in Pilates is performed with precise attention to detail to ensure it is as effective as possible. This leads to better body awareness and more efficient movements.
